Casper Ruud, the 5th ranked player in the world, won the Estoril Open after beating Miomir Kecmanovic, currently ranked 40th, in the final. Ruud defeated his Serbian opponent in two sets, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-3), in an hour and 49 minutes.

The 24-year-old Norweigan succeeds Sebastián Báez of Argentina, who had been eliminated in the quarterfinals. Ruud’s victory in the Estoril Open is his 10th title of his career. He has previously reached the finals of the French Open and the US Open.

The Estoril Open has a prestigious list of former winners, including Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. In 2018, João Sousa became the first Portuguese player to win the tournament.

The competition had previously been canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it returned this year with strict safety protocols in place, including social distancing measures and the use of masks.

Ruud’s impressive performance throughout the tournament has established him as one of the top players to watch on the global tennis stage. The young player’s meteoric rise in the rankings has attracted attention from tennis fans worldwide, and his success in the Estoril Open will undoubtedly solidify his reputation as a world-class player.[/expander_maker]
