Lyon, with goalkeeper Anthony Lopes in the starting lineup, secured a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Rennes in matchday 30 of Ligue 1 on Sunday. The result brings Lyon closer to securing a place in European competition next season.

Rennes started the match strongly, with Amine Gouiri finding the back of the net just 11 minutes into the game. However, Lyon mounted a comeback in the last half-hour, with Corentin Tolisso unleashing a fierce long-range strike on the hour mark to level the scoreline. Alexandre Lacazette then scored Lyon’s second goal in the 68th minute, putting the home side in the lead. The victory was sealed eleven minutes later when young substitute Yanis Barcola added the third goal for Lyon in the dying minutes of the game.

This win comes as a welcomed one for Lyon, who has had an inconsistent Ligue 1 campaign and is fighting to qualify for next season’s European competitions. With the victory, they moved to seventh place in the standings, albeit temporarily, with 47 points.

Rennes, on the other hand, missed the opportunity to leapfrog Lille, who suffered a surprise loss to Nantes a day earlier. As a result, Lille remains in fifth place, one point ahead of Rennes, who sit in sixth place.

Anthony Lopes was an important contributor to Lyon’s victory over Rennes, making a significant save early in the match to keep the scoreline level. The Portuguese goalkeeper has been an ever-present figure in the team, having started in 28 of their 30 Ligue 1 matches this season.

This match also showcased the attacking potential of Lyon, with Lacazette and Tolisso among the scorers. It is worth noting that their star player, Memphis Depay, is still recovering from an injury and is yet to return to the starting lineup.

With the season entering its final stages, Lyon is hoping to build on this result and gain momentum as they look towards finishing in the top four in Ligue 1. Key players such as Houssem Aouar and Lucas Paqueta will have to continue their impressive performances if Lyon is to achieve this goal.[/expander_maker]
