Barcelona and Girona played out a goalless draw on Monday night in the 28th round of La Liga at the Camp Nou, Barcelona, increasing the Catalan team’s lead over defending champions, Real Madrid, from twelve to thirteen points.[expander_maker id=”1″ ]
Barcelona, coached by Xavi Hernandez, now have a total of 72 points, while Real Madrid trail behind with only 59 points after playing 28 games in the league. As the teams are approaching the end of the season, there is a possibility that one of them will cross the 100-point mark, a feat achieved only twice before in the history of the Liga. In 2011/12, Real Madrid, led by Jose Mourinho, along with Cristiano Ronaldo in their team, crossed the 100-point barrier. In 2012/13, Barcelona under Pep Guardiola, also managed to reach the same accomplishment.
Meanwhile, under the guidance of former Real Madrid star, Michel, Girona held their 11th position in the La Liga standings with 35 points after Monday’s game. Despite a general lack of inspiration from Barcelona’s Gavi, Lewandowski and Ronald Araujo, and Girona’s impressive goalkeeper, Gazzaniga, the game ended with a stalemate.
The draw allowed Barcelona to further cement their position at the top of the table, increasing the gap between them and Real Madrid, who will be looking to bridge the gap in the upcoming matches.
Girona, on the other hand, will be pleased with their solid display against the top team in the league, and Michel will undoubtedly be taking positives from the game as he continues to try and help his team improve their overall performance in the course of the season.
The Spanish League is renowned for its unpredictable nature, and the teams cannot afford to take anything lightly as they approach the final ten matches of the season. Barcelona will be hoping to maintain their winning momentum to lift the title at the end of the season, while Real Madrid will be giving their all to catch up and defend their title. Only time will tell which team will emerge victorious, but one thing is for sure: Spanish football fans are in for an exciting ride in the coming weeks![/expander_maker]
