Former Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares, currently on loan at Marseille from Arsenal, had nothing but praise for his former team in a recent interview with RFI, a French radio station. [expander_maker id=”1″ ] He discussed the impressive European campaign of the Portuguese side and the possibilities they could reach during the competition.

Tavares was unsurprised by Benfica’s strong showing in the UEFA Champions League, citing the team’s talented players and capable coach. He expressed his belief that the team has what it takes to go far in the competition, given their skill set.

Interestingly, Tavares also highlighted a perceived undervaluing of Portuguese teams by other European sides, citing PSG as an example. He posits that such underestimations have not held up well in practice.

Currently, on loan at Marseille from Arsenal, Tavares has been keeping busy with his current team but continues to keep an eye on the happenings at Benfica, the club where he made a name for himself before making a move to Arsenal. The 21-year-old spent one season at Benfica, appearing in 16 games across all competitions, before making the switch to Arsenal in the summer of 2021.

Tavares impressed during his brief stint with Benfica and stood out during his appearances in the Champions League. His form and subsequent move to Arsenal show the quality that he possesses, and fans are eagerly waiting to see the next steps in his career.

As Benfica continues to progress through the Champions League and face off against Inter Milan in the upcoming quarterfinals, Tavares, like many fans of the Portuguese outfit, will be keeping a watchful eye on their performance. Success in the Champions League could very well put Benfica back on the map of top European clubs and cement their status as a Portuguese powerhouse.[/expander_maker]
