David Moore, the newly-appointed head of program for Bangladesh Cricket Board, is advocating for the incorporation of GPS technology into the team’s training and management systems. [expander_maker id=”1″ ] While the Management Information System already collects data on players, Moore believes that the addition of GPS tracking would help the team more effectively manage workload and reduce potential injuries, particularly for fast bowlers.
Moore acknowledged that GPS tracking is already widely used by top teams, including England, Australia, and India, and that Bangladesh needs to be doing at least what the best teams are doing in order to compete at the highest level. He is currently working with the head of the Management Information System, Naso Ahmed, to explore the best GPS products for the team.
However, Moore emphasized that data is just one small part of the picture and that human relationships and trust are just as important. He described his role as encompassing three areas: the national team, the High Performance Program, and coach education. In each area, Moore stressed the importance of developing relationships with coaches and players, recording information beyond just data and stats, and ensuring a holistic approach to player development.
Moore also outlined the purpose and structure of the Bangla Tigers program, which he described as a preparation program for injured or out-of-form players. Notably, the program will serve both white-ball and red-ball players, with red-ball players using the program to prepare for Test series without having to find their own coaches, physios, or fitness trainers.
Overall, Moore’s vision for the Bangladesh team involves a comprehensive approach that incorporates data, technology, and human relationships to develop players and compete at the highest level. The team’s embrace of GPS technology will be an important step in achieving that vision.[/expander_maker]
