Fresh off his victory at the Estoril Open, Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud has been eliminated in the third round of the Monte Carlo tournament after losing to German player Jan-Lennard Struff.[expander_maker id=”1″ ]
Despite facing an opponent ranked lower than him on the ATP ranking (100th), Ruud, who recently rose to the fourth position on the ranking after winning in Portugal, lost in two sets with scores of 1-6 and 6-7 (6), after an hour and 43 minutes of play.
In contrast, Italian player Jannik Sinner, currently ranked eighth on the ATP, had to work hard to defeat Hubert Hurkacz of Poland, who is ranked 13th. Sinner won the match with a comeback victory, beating Hurkacz with scores of 3-6, 7-6 (8/6), and 6-1.
The early exit for Ruud comes as a surprise, as the 23-year-old Norwegian had been in excellent form, winning his first ATP Masters title in Madrid last year and followed up with a victory in the Estoril Open just a few days ago. However, Struff proved to be a tough opponent, dominating the first set and then clinching the victory in a tiebreak in the second set.
Despite the defeat, Ruud’s recent rise up the ATP ranking has been impressive, with many fans and pundits tipping him as a future Grand Slam winner. His performances in the past year have shown that he has what it takes to compete at the highest level, and his performance in Monte Carlo will likely be seen as a minor setback in what promises to be a bright future for the young Norwegian.
Meanwhile, Sinner’s victory over Hurkacz was a hard-fought one, with the young Italian looking shaky at times against the hard-hitting Pole. However, Sinner showed great mental strength to battle back and secure the win, much to the delight of his fans.
The victory marks yet another achievement for Sinner in what has been an impressive career so far. At just 20 years old, the promising Italian has already reached the quarterfinals of the French Open and won two ATP titles, earning him a spot in the ATP Finals last year. His win in Monte Carlo will likely boost his confidence and cement his place as one of the most exciting young players in the sport.
As the tournament in Monte Carlo continues, tennis fans around the world will be eager to see who emerges as the eventual champion. With many of the top players in the world participating, including Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Stefanos Tsitsipas, there is sure to be plenty of drama and excitement in the coming days.
For both Ruud and Sinner, the tournament will be seen as an opportunity to further establish themselves as some of the top players in the sport. While Ruud’s campaign came to a disappointing end, Sinner’s victory shows that he has what it takes to compete at the highest level and could be a sign of great things to come.[/expander_maker]
