Career-Best Ranking for Liton Das Following Rawalpindi Heroics

DHAKA, Sept 4, 2024 (BSS) – Wicket-keeper batsman Liton Das has reached his career-best ranking after a remarkable 138-run innings that helped Bangladesh secure a six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second Test, sealing a 2-0 series win.

The latest rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) have propelled Liton to 15th place with 688 rating points, making him the highest-ranked Bangladeshi batter currently. Senior batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 191 in Bangladesh’s first Test win, is in the 17th position with 675 rating points.

Bangladesh’s historic triumph against Pakistan has also elevated them to the fourth position in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table based on percentage points, resulting in significant advancements for their players in the ICC Test Rankings.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who played a crucial role by contributing 78 runs and forming a vital partnership with Liton when Bangladesh was struggling at 26-6 in the second Test, has climbed 10 places to 75th among batters. His impressive bowling figures of five for 61 in the first innings have propelled him from 23rd to 22nd among bowlers and up to seventh among all-rounders.

The Bangladesh pacers have also been duly recognized for their consistent performances in the Test series. Hasan Mahmud has surged 16 places to 57th position with 367 rating points, while Taskin Ahmed has moved up 11 places to 85th with 264 rating points. Emerging talent Nahid Rana, who impressed with his pace, has advanced 23 places to 97th with 225 rating points.

On the global stage, England’s batting maestro Joe Root has further strengthened his position at the top of the batting rankings following back-to-back centuries in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s. Root’s outstanding scores of 143 and 103 have increased his lead over Kane Williamson by 63 points.

In the Test batters’ rankings, Darryl Mitchell of New Zealand, Steve Smith of Australia, and Harry Brook of England occupy the next three spots, followed by an Indian trio comprising captain Rohit Sharma, opening partner Yashaswi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli.
