Liton Das Praises Mehidy Hasan Miraz for Epic Century

DHAKA, Sept 3, 2024 (BSS) – Liton Das expressed admiration for Mehidy Hasan Miraz for his valuable contribution that eased his discomfort after sustaining an injury to his elbow during his remarkable century in the second Test, leading Bangladesh to a significant six-wicket win.

With this victory, Bangladesh achieved a historic Test series triumph over Pakistan.

Liton acknowledged that his inability to connect with the ball effectively at the beginning of his innings, due to his injury, was alleviated by Miraz’s bold strokeplay, which relieved the pressure on him considerably.

Ultimately, Liton scored 138 runs and forged a crucial 165-run partnership with Miraz for the seventh wicket, enabling Bangladesh to recover from a precarious position of 26-6. Thanks to their efforts, Bangladesh restricted Pakistan to just 12 runs and then the bowlers performed exceptionally well to seize control of the game.

Liton, honoured as the player of the match, credited Miraz for their success, stating, “The credit truly belongs to Miraz. His aggressive batting in the beginning set the tone. I was struggling to play due to the elbow injury, but Miraz’s boundary hits made things easier for us.”

“We strategized to disrupt their momentum since Pakistan had a strong position. After the lunch break, we felt more confident to approach our batting display freely,” he added.

Reflecting on the team’s achievement, Liton expressed his joy at being a part of the Bangladesh cricket team and emphasized the collective effort that led to the landmark victory.

He highlighted the importance of teamwork, stating, “Success in Test matches hinges on performing well in all aspects – batting, bowling, and fielding. In the first Test, we set the momentum with important catches taken by Zakir and myself off Babar. Every player contributed significantly to our success, despite the initial challenges we faced in the second Test.”

It was indeed a memorable victory for the Bangladesh cricket team, showcasing their unity and resilience throughout the series.
