Naimur Rahman “Durjoy” Resigns as BCB Board Director

DHAKA, Sept 4, 2024 (BSS) – Naimur Rahman, fondly known as Durjoy, has announced his resignation as a board director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) due to personal reasons.

Speaking to reporters, Durjoy, Bangladesh’s inaugural Test captain, confirmed his decision to step down, stating, “I have resigned from the BCB for personal reasons. I submitted my resignation letter to the BCB CEO last night.”

Durjoy’s resignation comes in the wake of BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon and Women’s Wing Chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel also stepping down from their positions following the removal of the Sheikh Hasina-led government.

Additionally, Jalal Yunus resigned from his role after being requested to do so by the National Sports Council (NSC). Yunus had been appointed to the BCB following his nomination by the NSC.

The NSC further revoked the nomination of Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby and introduced Faruque Ahmed and Nazmul Abedeen Fahim in their place. Subsequently, Faruque Ahmed was elected as the new BCB President.

Despite not being nominated by his party in the previous election, Naimur Rahman successfully contested and became a Member of Parliament from the Manikganj-1 constituency in both the 2014 and 2019 elections as a member of the Awami League.

Prior to his political career, Naimur Rahman played an integral role in the BCB board of directors and held the position of President at the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) for an extended period.

Durjoy’s resignation marks the end of a significant chapter in his longstanding involvement with cricket administration in Bangladesh, as he transitions to focus on personal pursuits.
