PSG-PSV: De Jong Confident There Was No Penalty for Paris
Luuk de Jong, the forward and captain of PSV Eindhoven, was certain that the referee would reverse his decision. He insists that there was no penalty after his teammate Olivier Boscagli intervened on Marco Asensio in stoppage time during the match between PSG and PSV Eindhoven (1-1) on Tuesday. Initially, Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg pointed to the penalty spot before overturning his decision upon VAR review.
“I Knew There Was No Penalty”
“I was behind Olivier Boscagli, and he played the ball 100%,” De Jong stated on Ziggo Sport. “I knew there was no penalty. Then Walter Benítez once again saved us.”
Departing Paris with their second point of the competition was a relief for De Jong, who acknowledges the challenge they faced against PSG. “They have incredibly talented players,” he added. “The substitutes who came into the team brought as much power as the starting players. Fortunately, we understood. We had tough moments, but we fought and are content with this point.”
He echoes the sentiments of his coach Peter Bosz, who was pleased to have secured something at the Parc des Princes. “Normally, we should have lost,” Bosz admitted. “I’ve seen games where it’s not the best team that wins; it’s possible. We had a tough start in the first 10 minutes, but after that, we played well. In the first half, we tried to play. But it’s not easy when you’re missing four or five starting players and playing in Paris.”
The collaboration between De Jong and his team in facing a formidable opponent like PSG exemplifies the resilience and perseverance required in high-stakes football encounters. Their performance against PSG shows the unpredictable nature of football matches and the determination of underdogs to secure every opportunity to compete at the highest levels.
