Tennis World No.2 Iga Swiatek to Play in BJK Cup

Absent from the courts since the US Open, World No.2 Iga Swiatek announced on social media on Tuesday that she will be representing Poland in the final phase of the BJK Cup, scheduled to take place from November 13th to 20th in Malaga, Spain.

“See you in Malaga! I am happy to announce that I will be playing in the Billie Jean King Cup (BJKC) finals,” said the Polish player on the social network X (formerly Twitter). The competition is a national team event where Poland will start against Spain on November 13th.

Having won five Grand Slam tournaments, Iga Swiatek has not played since her defeat against Jessica Pegula (World No.4 in the WTA rankings) in the quarterfinals of the US Open at the beginning of September.

She notably skipped the WTA 1000 tournaments in Beijing (September 25th to October 6th) citing “personal reasons,” and the Wuhan event (October 7th to 13th) just after parting ways with her coach Tomasz Wiktorowski.

Due to her absence, the Polish player was overtaken on Monday at the top of the WTA rankings by Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka. Now under the coaching of Belgian Wim Fissette, Iga Swiatek is set to compete in the Masters (November 2nd to 9th) which will bring together the top eight players of the season in Riyadh.
